Exercise Safety Policy

Movement is one of the strongest supports for health; but no piece of content fits everyone, and no web page can see you in person. This policy draws the safety boundaries of our exercise content.

General information is not a personal programme

Our movement and exercise content explains concepts, general principles and common approaches. None of it is a training programme built for your age, health history and current condition; providing such programmes over the internet is not our role. Personal programming requires assessment, observation and feedback, and those are only possible face to face with a qualified professional.

Before you start

If you have been inactive for a long time, live with a chronic condition, are pregnant, have recently had surgery or an injury, or have experienced chest pain, dizziness or unusual shortness of breath during exercise, you should consult a doctor before starting a new exercise routine. This is not a formality; it is the reading contract for our content. Nothing we publish replaces that assessment.

Safety principles we follow in our content

Every piece of content that describes exercise follows these principles:

  • Form before load: we never suggest adding weight or speed before the movement pattern is sound.
  • Gradual progression: we make no "suitable for everyone" claims, and we describe progress in small increments.
  • Pain is information: we say, at every opportunity, that sharp, stabbing or joint-centred pain is a signal to stop, not a threshold to push through.
  • Rest is part of training: we do not publish narratives that frame recovery as weakness.
  • No hype: formulas such as "fat-burning move" or "guaranteed results" do not appear in our exercise content.

Tools and exercise figures

Values produced by our exercise-related calculators are estimates based on general formulas, not measurements of your individual performance. How they are calculated is explained in our Calculator and Tool Methodology, and the general limits of our health content are described in the Health Content Policy.

A working version

This policy is a working version. As exercise science and safe training communication evolve, so will this page. If you find a safety gap in our exercise content, we ask you to let us know.
